SUBJECT: Florida Inland Navigation District Awards City $323,075 for South Pointe Park
Pier Project
This Letter to Commission is to inform the Mayor and Commission of a grant that was
recently awarded to the City, in the amount of $323,075, from Florida Inland Navigation
District for South Pointe Park Pier renovation and expansion.
The grant will be used for Phase T of the project, which includes design, design
development, construction documents, permitting, bid and award and construction
administration services. The scope of work for the pier includes: rebuilding the existing pier,
the addition of bridge connection access points from the existing jetty and the extension of
the jetty pathway.
The funding that will be freed up as a result of the FIND grant award will be allocated
towards project contingency. The construction budget is $4,278,463.
The City will apply to FIND for additional funding for Phase 2, the construction portion of this
project.
The Florida Legislature created s. 374.976, Florida Statutes in recognition of the importance
and benefits of inland navigation channels and waterways, as well as in acknowledgement
of the problems associated with the construction, continued maintenance and use of these
waterways. This law authorizes and empowers each inland navigation district to undertake
programs intended to alleviate the problems associated with its watenrays. The South
Pointe Pier project will be funded through the W aterways Assistance Program.
