LTC 252-2017 International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program ExhibitionsMIAMIBEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # 252-2017 LETTER TO COMMISSION To: Mayor Philip Levine and Members of he City Cor" mission From: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager Date: May 12, 2017 Subject: International Baccalaureate (IB) Prima Years Program Exhibitions The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to invite you to attend the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Year Program (PYP) Exhibitions for Fienberg-Fisher K-8 Center, South Pointe Elementary, North Beach Elementary, Biscayne Elementary and Treasure Island Elementary. The IB Exhibition is an important part of the PYP for all students. In the final year of the program (5th grade), students undertake a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. As the culminating experience of the PYP, the Exhibition offers students an exciting opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning. Please join us at our elementary schools on the below dates and times, where our youth will present their exhibitions: Biscayne Elementary May 25 9:00 a.m. Fienberg-Fisher K-8 Center May 25 9:00 a.m. North Beach Elementary May 31 & June 1 6:00 p.m. South Pointe Elementary May 18 9:00 a.m. Treasure Island Elementary May 31 6:00 p.m. As of March 2012, Miami Beach became one in a handful of cities in the country to provide the IB program to every public school and to every student within its jurisdiction. All public schools in Miami Beach have attained International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorization. The IB PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer. The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB PYP is the six transdisciplinary themes. The themes help teachers to develop a program of inquiries requiring a high level of involvement on the part of the students. We will continue to support our strategic outcome to achieve K-12 public school excellence through our Education Compact. If you have any ques;i•J s, please feel free to contact me. J LM/K
