City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, Tel: 305.673.7575 MEDIA ALERT Tonya Daniels, E-mail: tonyadaniels@miamibeachfl.gov Melissa Berthier, E-mail: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 5, 2017 A Day at the Beach for Kids with Special Needs -- Miami Beach Fire & Ocean Rescue Hosts Children & Families -- WHO/WHAT: For over 30 years, hundreds of children who rely on ventilation assistance to support their breathing — including tracheostomy ventilators, C-PAPs, BiPAPs, or oxygen — are offered a day on the South Beach sand and surf as part of Nicklaus Children's Hospital's week-long Ventilated Assisted Children's Center Camp. Following this Miami Beach springtime tradition, dozens of children with ventilation needs will enjoy a beach day on Tuesday, April 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Miami Beach Fire and Ocean Rescue personnel will set up a wheelchair path over the sand and take the children into the water using floating wheelchairs.
