City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS, Melissa Berthier PRESS RELEASE Tel: 305.673.7575, E-mail: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 16, 2017 Miami Beach Schools Are No Place for Hate – City to Implement Anti-Bullying Program in its Public Schools – Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach, in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), is planning to implement the “No Place For Hate” program during the 2017-18 school year at all six Miami Beach schools. This program, which counters racism, name-calling and bigotry in schools, is in alignment with the initiative for the Florida region and includes school wide and age-appropriate activities, along with training students and educators to combat hate language. “The goal is to bring together Miami Beach residents to support students, teachers, educators and parents, in creating a safe, peaceful and respectful community for all,” shared City Manager Jimmy L. Morales. The ADL, through the Harriet and Jack Rosenfeld Foundation, will provide a 50% subsidy for the anti-bullying/cyberbullying trainings required to obtain designation for the 2017-18 school year for Miami Beach Senior High, Nautilus Middle, South Pointe Elementary, North Beach Elementary, Biscayne Elementary, and Fienberg Fisher K-8 Center students and teachers. The City of Miami Beach, in turn, will implement one community-wide event that raises awareness and/or addresses bullying prevention, diversity and respect for all at a city-owned facility. This program supports the Miami Beach Education Compact by helping to achieve K-12 educational excellence. Implemented in January 2008, the Education Compact reflects the desire of the Miami Beach community to support excellence in the city’s public schools and enhance the health and well-being of our city’s youth. ### To request this material in alternate format, sign language interpreter (five-day notice required), information on access for persons with disabilities, and/or any accommodation to review any document or participate in any city-sponsored proceedings, call 305.604.2489 and select 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then option 6; TTY users may call via 711 (Florida Relay Service).
