Mayor-Elect Gelber has spent his life devoted to public service, nearly a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and in the Florida legislature - in both the House and the Senate. A Miami Beach native and graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School, Gelber is the son of former Miami Beach Mayor Seymour Gelber. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Tufts University and the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a Truman Scholar. Michael Gongora returns to the Miami Beach Commission after having served a partial term in 2006 and re-elected to a full term in 2009. Góngora graduated from the University of Miami School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor (cum laude). He is an attorney at Becker & Poliakoff. Commissioner-elect Mark Samuelian will also be sworn in on Monday. Samuelian is an active civic leader and a business strategist. He holds an engineering degree, cum laude, from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Commissioner Micky Steinberg was elected to the City Commission in 2013 and will be sworn in for a second, consecutive term. Steinberg has championed various initiatives, some of which include strengthening ethics ordinances, human rights, finding solutions to alleviate traffic congestion and supporting our local Miami Beach public schools. The ceremony will take place in the Miami Beach Commission Chambers.
