In a vibrant city rich with culture and diversity, the Hispanic community accounts for over half of Miami Beach’s population. Honoring the stories and age-old traditions, the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department, alongside the Hispanic Affairs Committee, is hosting a fun-filled month of events and ceremonies celebrating Hispanic heritage throughout the island community. Sponsored by Atlantic Broadband and T-Mobile, the Hispanic Heritage Festival will be held on Friday, October 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Residents can indulge in traditional Latin food, enjoy carnival rides, enjoy music and live entertainment, and compete in a classic dominoes tournament at North Shore Park. The journey through the beautiful customs and countries of Spain and Latin America ends with a prestigious awards ceremony honoring those that have contributed positively to the quality of life in Miami Beach. In respect to matters pertaining to the Hispanic community, awardees were successful in their constructive and inclusive efforts taking place in either one’s personal life or professional field. Hosted by the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee and The Rhythm Foundation, Celebration and Dance is a lively event welcoming the public to the North Beach Bandshell. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 13, attendees can put their best foot forward and give a paso doble moving to the dynamic keys of pianist Tony Perez and vibrant drums of Orquesta Alegria. If you would rather lay out a sábana on the lawn and enjoy a popular cultural film on October 13, view the movie Instructions Not Included (rated PG-13) at South Pointe Park from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Uniting to promote and preserve Hispanic heritage, all events are free and open to the public.
