Overton -- WHAT/WHO: Illuminating South Pointe Park, the newly renovated water fountains along the south end of Washington Avenue are now complete. Join the city in a ribbon cutting ceremony opening, along with a memorial plaque dedication in honor of Miami Beach Police Department veteran Mark N. Overton, commemorating his 32 years of service. “Chief Overton showcased the finest values of the department: honor, integrity and dedication,” said Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy L. Morales. “His love for South Pointe Park and remarkable legacy throughout South Florida will always be remembered.” Featuring new landscaping and pathway lighting, the formerly interactive water fixtures have been replaced with passive fountains and misters lined with soft, fluorescent lights. The fountains are highlighted by surfaces and vanishing edges similar to an infinity pool that provide a minimalistic design. Granting an additional area for pedestrians to unwind and reflect, coral stone benches have been installed in line with the park’s aesthetic.
