City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, Tel: 305.673.7575 PRESS RELEASE Tonya Daniels, E-mail: tonyadaniels@miamibeachfl.gov Melissa Berthier, E-mail: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 7, 2018 Greater Miami and the Beaches Selected for Resilience Accelerator Workshop — Miami Beach’s West Avenue Project to Partake in the Accelerator — Miami Beach, FL – At the forefront of climate change adaption and mitigation, the City of Miami Beach has attracted expert attention from the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities, Urban Land Institute (ULI), Harvard University and more – all who have been proactive in helping to shape the City’s resiliency strategy. Now, the City’s innovative approach is catching the eye of another leading group – the 100 Resilient Cities and Columbia University’s Center for Resilient Cities and Landscape’s Resiliency Accelerator. Funded by a $3.7 million grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, the intensive three-day design driven workshop happening this week brings multi-disciplinary experts and key stakeholders from the Ivy League research university to assess and advance a project’s strategy and design. “I believe the West Avenue Neighborhood Project is a great choice for the Resiliency Accelerator as it’s one of the lowest-lying areas in our City that demands focus,” expressed Mayor Dan Gelber. “I look forward to collaborating with this group to keep the project moving forward, while integrating a more holistic, interdisciplinary approach to grey and green infrastructure.” Columbia University is charged with working with the West Avenue neighborhood, Miami Beach City Commission and municipal staff to build consensus on the design and identify creative opportunities to help the community better adapt to climate change. The City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, City of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County also have projects as part of the Resilience Accelerator — building upon Resilient Greater Miami and the Beaches partnership and the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact. ### To request this material in alternate format, sign language interpreter (five-day notice required), information on access for persons with disabilities, and/or any accommodation to review any document or participate in any city-sponsored proceedings, call 305.604.2489 and select 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then option 6; TTY users may call via 711 (Florida Relay Service).
