Assistant Director of Environment and Sustainability Margarita Wells, alongside other City staff, will lead the City of Boston on a personal tour – sharing expertise about the on-going resiliency initiatives and some of the lessons learned in design and construction thus far. “As pioneers in climate resilient design and construction, Boston officials are seeking to learn from us,” noted Miami Beach Chief Resiliency Officer Susanne M. Torriente. “We’re pleased to welcome them to our City and hope to be of significant help on their current road elevation project.” The fellow coastal city’s mission is to establish climate resilience design guidelines for managing segmental sea level rise adaption projects – aiming to secure approximately four feet of flood protection by 2070. “One of the conceptual solutions developed during the Climate Ready Boston Charlestown study was elevating roadways to act as flood barriers,” shared Climate Ready Boston’s Lead Resiliency Engineer Julia A. Eaton. “This is one of the flood barrier options that we will be preparing sample design documents and considerations for implementation, including incremental planning. We’re looking forward to learning from Miami Beach based on their experience as leaders in this arena.” WHEN: Monday, June 4 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. WHERE: Sunset Harbor Marina 1700 Purdy Avenue ### To request this material in alternate format, sign language interpreter (five-day notice required), information on access for persons with disabilities, and/or any accommodation to review any document or participate in any city-sponsored proceedings, call 305.604.2489 and select 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then option 6; TTY users may call via 711 (Florida Relay Service).
