SUBJECT: Ocean Drive Parklet Pilot Activation
The purpose of this LTC is to inform the Mayor and Commission of a new and exciting cultural
activation along Ocean Drive.
In collaboration with Estefan Enterprises, the City has been issued a Special Event Permit to
place a parklet on the southern end of the 800 block of Ocean Drive. Curated by Grammy
Award winning producer Emilio Estefan, with live musical performances by locally recognized
artists. Events will be free and open to the public, during parklet activations.
We are excited to announce that a trial run, on February 28th, was a success. Performances by
Mariano Band started at 7pm and were enjoyed by many (Attached). The parklet will remain in
place for the duration of the weekend with performances by a variety of acts on Friday and
Saturday, 7pm to 10pm, and Sunday, 5:30pm to 9pm.
This parklet is modular and is intended to be removed and stored off site during non-activation.
As part of the pilot, rope lighting and speakers have been placed in the trees along the block.
This new parklet will take the equivalent length of two parking spaces on the western side of
Ocean Drive.
As the permit holder for the parklet and the street, activations will be focused on the blocks,
where recently, the noise exemption was lifted (5-8 and 12-15 street). Music will be played at
ambient levels, through the newly installed speakers. During the pilot, feasibility and logistics for
adding similar lighting and speakers along the drive will be assessed.
