Morales, City Manager 'I, DATE: March 4, 2019 SUBJECT: UPDATE ON LUMMUS PARK LIG1TING INCIDENT BETWEEN 5Th STREET — 8TH STREET, ON THE BEACHWALK. The purpose of this LTC is to update the Mayor and City Commission on Park Lighting issues located on the Beachwalk of Lummus Park between 5TH Street — 8Th Street. On Friday, March 1ST, the PW Operations Control Room received multiple reports of a small underground explosion that caused an electrical box cover to become airborne near Ocean Drive and 10th Street. Police, Fire and FP&L responded and found no hazardous conditions present. It was determined to be a non-emergency and all parties departed the scene. Later, March 1ST, the Control Room received multiple reports of park light outages on the Beachwalk of Lummus Park between 5TH Street — 8TH Street. At 9:30pm. The Street Lighting Division responded to investigate and found two (2) electrical service meters out of power, possibly as a result of the previously reported electrical box explosion in the early morning hours. FPL was immediately notified of the outages and a service ticket was created for the repairs. As of Saturday, March 2ND, PW Operations Street Lighting Division installed a portable generator at 9:30am near 7TH Street & Ocean Drive to provide temporary power to the lights affected by the power outage and to address public safety concerns. The Control Room Operators have since maintained the operation of the portable generator and will continue to maintain until the successful restoration of power by FPL to the affected lights on the Beachwalk of Lummus Park. FPL is working expeditiously on the problem. As soon as an estimated time for completion is given, we will notify the public.
