SUBJECT: CITY'S NEW ICONIC BUS SHEL R DESIGN RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS RED DOT AWARD
We are excited to announce that the City's new iconic bus shelter design by Pininfarina received the Red
Dot Award for Design Concept of 2019 in the Category of Highest Design Quality.
Beginning in 2005, the Red Dot Awards recognized the need to identify and celebrate new design concepts
and innovations, the precursors of tomorrow's great products. This year, the Red Dot Awards panel received
a total of 4,218 entries from 48 countries. Over two days, the esteemed panel of international design experts
gathered in Singapore for the adjudication.To honor the chosen design projects,the Red Dot Design Awards
Ceremony will be held on September 25, 2019 in Singapore, Malaysia.
Featuring state-of-the-art technology and amenities that enhance the passenger experience, key design
highlights of the City's iconic bus shelters include a solar panel system with glazed color-patterned glass,
electronic bus and trolley arrival signs, passenger security system, and a tempered glass frame with
additional awning to protect customers from the elements.
From a resilience perspective, new bus shelters will address tropical weather conditions. Some shelter types
will utilize photovoltaic cells for generation of power for the bus shelter lighting. The glazed roof surface of
the shelters has a light-colored ceramic frit coating to mitigate heat island effect.

City Commission approval to issue a Request For Proposals for a revenue sharing agreement for the
construction, operation, and maintenance of the new bus shelters is expected on July 31, 2019.
