DATE: August 14, 2019 SUBJECT: "Filmed on the Beach": A Miami Beach Digital Film Tour The purpose of this Letter to the Commission ("LTC") is to inform the Mayor and City Commission of a new digital initiative from the Tourism and Culture department showcasing Miami Beach and how we have been celebrated in film and television. The Tourism and Culture department has done in depth research into the history of Miami Beach and the film industry, and is pleased to now offer that research to our visitors and residents in a dedicated, interactive website that allows the user to scroll through Miami Beach and become acquainted with various parts of the city in North Beach, Mid Beach and South Beach that have been the backdrops from some of our favorite major motion pictures such as the infamous chainsaw scene from Scarface which was filmed at 728 Ocean Drive, to Beatlemania hitting the USA in a hotel in North Beach.
