FOR TRANSMITTAL AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

RESOLUTION No. 19.205
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DORAL, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF H.R. 2420 AND S.
1267 TO ESTABLISH THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL AMERICAN
LATINO MUSEUM ON THE NATIONAL MALL IN WASHINGTON, D.C.;
PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE
WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives and Senate introduced in
May 2019 H.R. 2420 and S. 1267; and.
WHEREAS, these companion bills, H.R. 2420 and S. 1267, will establish within the
Smithsonian Institution the Smithsonian National American Latino Museum; and
WHEREAS, these companion bilis would designate a site on the National Mall in
Washington, DC as the future location for the Smithsonian American Latino Museum,
secure a 50/50 public and private funding model, and begin the planning for fund raising,
construction and governance of the Museum; and
WHEREAS, the City of Doral's commitment to the arts, to the principles of diversity
and to building a more inclusive community recognizes and appreciates that the Latino
community is vital to American life, art, culture, and industry as well as our neighborhoods
and communities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Doral desires to support the establishment of the proposed
Museum on the National Mall in Washington D.C., among the other landmark Smithsonian
Institutions to highlight the history, contributions and successes of the Latino community,
the largest demographic minority population in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the City of Doral wishes to encourage the creation of a Smithsonian
American Latino Museum, through its support of H.R. 2420 and S. 1267, to honor Latinos
and their significant contributions to our culture and society; and
WHEREAS, the City of Doral's support will add impetus to Congress' effort, and
also help the City to be seen as active in matters of cultural affairs at the local and national
level.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY DORAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are confirmed, adopted and incorporated
herein by reference.
Section 2. Recommended Position. The Mayor and City Council -members of the
City of Doral urge the United States Congress and the United States Senate to support
H.R. 2420 and S 1267.
Section 3.Transmittal. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit this Resolution
to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Majority Leader of the Senate, to
each Senator and Representative from Florida in the Congress of the United States, and
to the thirty-five (35) municipalities that comprise the Miami- Dade League of Cities, to
ensure that the City's position with this regard is clearly received and understood.
Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective upon its
adoption.

The foregoing Resolution was offered by CouncilmemberCabral who moved its adoption.
The motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Mariaca and upon being put to a vote, the vote
was as follows:
