SUBJECT: IGUANA REMEDIATION UPDATE
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and City Commission with an
update on iguana remediation and control efforts.
After a successful pilot program back in July 2019, where over 200 iguanas were removed from
facilities such as Brittany Bay Park, Muss Park, Pinetree Park, and Flamingo Park by Redline
Iguana Removal, an inquiry was then put out to various iguana remediation firms throughout
South Florida for quotes to provide a yearly service to the City. After considering the various
proposals that were submitted, it was deemed in the best interest of the City to continue to
collaborate with Redline for future removals as they were the lowest, responsible bidder.
The City has successfully established a mitigation and removal program, similar to its rodent
control program. The strategy is to remove large iguanas and control future breeding and nests.
The program kicked off the week of January 13th, 2020. During that week, Redline was able to
snare, trap, and capture over 200 more adult iguanas total, all within FWC guidelines, between
the Miami Beach Golf Course and Normandy Shores Golf Course. They also removed 7 additional
iguanas from Muss Park, Pinetree Park, and the vacant area around the Scott Rakow Youth
Center.
Redline also identified increased populations of iguanas on private property. Property
Management staff have negotiated a resident rate for removal on private property at a rate of
$70.00 per service call (regularly $100.00). If some circumstances require extended service,
Redline will also offer a resident rate of$400.00 per week (regularly $650.00).
Redline will continue to provide weekly reports to the Property Management Department with
updates.

1. Regular Service Call: $100 Miami Beach Resident: $70
2. Regular Week of Trapping/Removal: $650 Miami Beach Resident: 400
* Redline will incorporate several different methods of removal, including trapping, noosing, and
other FWC approved methods. In general, Redline spends 1 hour onsite. However, Redline will
spend as much time as necessary to get the job done. If there is a significant amount of iguanas
on the property, Redline recommends a week long removal.
