Morales, City Manager 0 Ppm Tor DATE: February 13, 2020 SUBJECT: July 26, 2019 Animal Welfare Committee Motion The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the motions made by the Animal Welfare Committee at its July 16, 2019 meeting. Members in Attendance: Chair Linda Diamond, Sara De Los Reyes, Brooke Owens, Pedro Cofino Members Absent: Jaedra Wedel, Mary Thingelstad, Jane Gross 1. MOTION: Urging that the Miami Beach Commission explore the humane removal of the invasive green iguana (iguana species) and ask that, if options are provided, that the Animal Welfare Committee be allowed to review and provide recommendations on said options. Motion made by: Member Sara De Los Reyes Seconded by: Member Brooke Owens Motion passed 4-0 2. MOTION: Urging the City Commission to explore a dangerous dog ordinance that is not breed specific (using the Best Friends Animal Society IMLA template as guideline), incorporate language that allows the City to fine owners who have created conditions leading to a dangerous dog, and consider a resolution urging Miami-Dade County to update its dangerous dog ordinance and remove breed specific language also using the Best Friends Animal Society IMLA as a template.
