SUBJECT: LINCOLN COURT PEDESTRIAN RIDGE LIGHTING
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and City Commission with a status
update on enhanced lighting at the Lincoln Court pedestrian bridge.
It was recently reported that poor lighting in some areas of the Lincoln Court pedestrian bridge provided
the potential for unlawful activities within the area.
To address the resident's concerns, Public Works conducted a walk-through inspection of the pedestrian
bridge and found one dark spot in particular, located on the North side landing by Dade Boulevard, that
staff deemed needed to be addressed immediately. Two days ago, Public Works installed an additional
Louis Poulsen lighting fixture (pictures attached) on a previously installed pole for Police cameras to
eliminate the dark spot.
It is important to note that prior to the opening of the bridge, Public Works upgraded the lighting on this
block to LED and installed additional lighting at the bridge landings and the Police Department installed
surveillance cameras on both sides of the bridge. The existing lighting appears adequate to address the
public safety and security needs without creating a lighting nuisance for the adjacent property owners.
The Public Works Department will continue to monitor the pedestrian bridge to ensure all lights are
operational.
