Morales, City Manager DATE: May 28, 2020 SUBJECT: Youth Commission Motions The Youth Commission would like you to be aware of the following motions regarding STEAM Plus virtual sessions, existing educational enhancements, and mock SAT/ACT, approved at the May 26, 2020 commission meeting. C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer MT/LDR City of Miami Beach Youth Commission Meeting of May 26, 2020 Members Present: Jared Rogoff, Madeleine Gonzalez, Samuel Hadar, and Moshe Berkowitz Members Absent: Jake Aleman and Jonathan Tarnen Motion 1 Motion made by Jared Rogoff Motion seconded by Madeleine Gonzalez The Youth Commission requests the Mayor and City Commission make an effort to have the STEAM Plus activations live either virtual or in-person as opposed to pre-recorded videos. The Youth Commission urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 4-0 Motion 2 Motion made by Madeleine Gonzalez Motion seconded by Samuel Hadar The Youth Commission requests the Mayor and City Commission keep the current educational initiatives for the upcoming school years for public school youth K-12 so they have the best education provided to them. The Youth Commission urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 4-0 Motion 3 Motion made by Moshe Berkowitz Motion seconded by Madeleine Gonzalez The Youth Commission requests the Mayor and City Commission reschedule and fund the mock SAT/ACT tests to make it available to Miami Beach high school youth prior to the end of the calendar year. The Youth Commission urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 4-0
