SUBJECT: VIRTUAL SPECIAL TY SUMMER CAMP CLASS REGISTRATION
The purpose of this L TC is to notify the Mayor and City Commission that the Parks and Recreation
Department will offer Virtual Specialty Camp programming for summer 2020.
Registration for Virtual Specialty Summer Camp classes will open to residents on Monday, June
1°, and begin on Monday, June 8. Space is limited. Offerings include:
• Coding & Startup Entrepreneurship
• Creative Coding with Scratch
• Culinary Kids
• Dance Camp (beginners, intermediate and advanced sessions)
• Fine Art Camp (beginner and advanced sessions)
• Introduction to Python & Machine Learning
• Jr. Fire Camp
• Krafty Kidz
• Mad Scientists
• Yoga, Zumba, Cheer & Hip Hop

Coding & Startup Entrepreneurship
The Coding & Startup Entrepreneurship Program follows a curriculum that moves students
through hands on activities, teaching them the basics of business ideation, building a website,
and pitching their businesses. During this program, students flex their creative muscles building
out business ideas while learning how to code their first websites.
Creative Coding with Scratch
This exciting and innovative program will allow students to deep dive into programming logic with
Scratch, the easy to learn, drag-and-drop creative learning environment developed by MIT Media
Lab. Over the course of 5 days. students will utilize a number of code blocks and characters to
gain an understanding in computational and logical thinking, creating animated stories and
games. The engaging design of Scratch will enhance the learning process, making it simple for
students to develop the necessary and essential STEM skills for our tech-driven society.
Culinary Kids
Learn the fundamentals of cooking and create fun recipes such as parfaits, guacamole, pizza
bites and more. Supply kit included with class. Supplies required: Basic cooking supplies, hot
plate or stove, oven. Adult supervision is required.
Dance Camp (beginners, intermediate and advanced sessions)
Participants will engage in a week of dance, including Hip-Hop, Acro and other genres.
Fine Art Camp (beginner and advanced sessions)
Students will create one project per day. Beginner lessons include air-dry clay chocolate truffles,
string art, watercolor painting, shrinky-dink, and canvas painting. Advanced lessons include a
guitar canvas painting, a watercolor koi fish painting, a gold scratchboard lesson, an air-dry clay
sculpture, and a plaster gauze sculpture.
Introduction to Python & Machine Learning
This introductory Python course will give students an introduction to computational thinking and
logic through utilization of the programming language Python - one of the fastest growing
programming languages available today. Students will be introduced to object-oriented concepts
and will see how this knowledge is tied to algorithms, cryptography and machine learning. The
ultimate aim is to teach the students a basic introduction to Python so that they may be able to
put it towards practical use such as creation of a calculator capable of numerical solutions and
problem solving.
Jr. Fire Camp
Campers will be introduced to the exciting world of fire fighters and first responders. Children
with learn the basics of first aid, water safety, fire prevention and more.
Krafty Kidz
Toddlers will enjoy interactive virtual games and activities including Outrageous Visual Arts,
Yoda Yoga, Star Power Storytime and more.
Mad Scientists
Engage in fun experiments while learning about inertia, energy, matter and more. Participants will
conduct two experiments a day, and projects include: Germ Project, Elephant Toothpaste, Slime,
Balloon Inflater, and lnstaSnow.
Yoga, Zumba, Cheer & Hip-hop
Get fit with Fernando in this fun and exciting virtual camp. Activities include yoga, Zumba, dance,
crafts and more!
Registration and payments for all programming is handled through RecTrac, our online
registration and payment system.
