SUBJECT: Extended Deadline for 2020 Hall o Fame Applications
The purpose of this Letter to Commission ("TC") is to update the Mayor and City Commission on the
extended deadline to submit applications for the 2020 Hall of Fame.
The City of Miami Beach Hall of Fame was established in 2018 to recognize extraordinary people who have
made a significant contribution to the City of Miami Beach. Nominees have made distinguished
achievements across a variety of fields, including arts, architecture, design, science, athletics, business, and
community leadership. Nominees must be well known in their field of expertise and recognized as a leader.
As of September 14, 2020, staff received one application for the 2020 Hall of Fame. To allow for additional
applications, the deadline will be extended through November 30, 2020. Please find as follows the revised
ti meline:
July 1- November 30, 2020 - Hall of Fame nominations open.
January 2021 - First nomination review meeting of the Miami Beach Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
January/February 2021- Second nomination review of Miami Beach Hall of Fame Selection Committee
and recommendation meeting.
February 2021 - Miami Beach Hall of Fame Selection Committee recommendations presented to Miami
Beach City Commission for approval.
Date to be Determined 2021 - Hall of Fame 2020 Inductees will be honored with a ceremony.
The nine-member Commission-appointed Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which includes two at large
members from the community, will meet, review applications and recommend deserving applications. They
will present their recommendations to the Mayor and City Commission in February 2021 for review. The city
will host the second Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2021 to preserve the inductee.
