LTC# 346-2020 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: September 30, 2020 SUBJECT: ANIMAL WELFARE COMMITTEE MOTIONS Í[OocuSigned by: U..± The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with the motions made during the September 22, 2020 Animal Welfare Committee subcommittee meeting. Members in Attendance: Chair Linda Diamond, Vice-Chair Sara de los Reyes, Dana Turken, Jaedra Wedel, Ron Gerard, Brooke Owen, Mary Garcia Members Absent: Pedro Cofino 1. MOTION : Urging that the Miami Beach Commission endorse the usage of the vacant school building 0n 8128 Collins Avenue, which the Committee believes to be a great location for the purposes of trap, neuter, vaccinate, and rescue/release activities as well as potentially an adoption center by SoBe Cats, its partners, Saving Sage, and other interested nonprofits. Given the City Commission's prior direction to explore a potential adoption facility site, the committee also urges the Commission to consider encouraging a formal arrangement (ideally containing a five-year minimum commitment) to include cost sharing for maintenance and building repairs. The Committee believes this will add other benefits to the area as this would create a functioning facility which compliments the recent activation of the West Lots with the skate park as well as the nearby dog parks in North Shore Park.
