Morales, City Manag ·zsc+rs«oro4se October 27, 2020 SUBJECT: Miami Beach to Present at First Ever Tree City of the World Conference I am pleased to announce the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) along with the Arbor Day Foundation has designated the City of Miami Beach as a Tree City of the World. Tree Cities of the World is an international program that celebrates cities across all continents that meet core standards for the care and planning of trees and forests. The Tree Cities of the World program is built off the success of the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA program, which has provided recognition to cities within the United States for more than 40 years. The vision of the Tree Cities of the World program is to connect cities around the world to a new network dedicated to sharing and adopting the most successful approaches to managing city trees and forests. On October 29-30, 2020, Tree Cities of the World Conference will be holding their first conference. This virtual conference is an opportunity for cities to share their success stories, learn about global urban forestry initiatives, and connect with peers from around the world. Miami Beach was selected as the only U.S. city to present at this inaugural event. The selection committee was impressed with the city's Urban Forestry Master Plan and the city's approach to expanding tree canopy to reduce the community's risks to climate change and sea level rise. To Register for the event, please follow the link below: https:/ /treecitiesoftheworld .orq/conference.cfm The Conference will also be recorded and later put on YouTube for future viewings If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Omar Leon, Urban Forester at o/litrleh@miamibeachfl.gov , d JLM'AH/ESW/OJL 1
