Subject: Prekindergarten Pilot Program Information Sessions for Families
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update you on the status of the City of Miami
Beach’s Prekindergarten (PreK) Pilot Program for Miami Beach residents for the 2021-2022
school year, approved at the July 29, 2020 Commission meeting. The Prekindergarten Pilot
Program will expand hourly access to high quality PreK providers by providing up to $2,700 to
eligible Miami Beach families.
A series of informational sessions for interested families has been scheduled on the following
dates via Zoom (flyer attached):
Tuesday, December 8 at 6 pm (English) and 7 pm (Spanish)
Wednesday, December 9 at 11 am (English) and 12 pm (Spanish)
Tuesday, December 15 at 11 am (English) and 12 pm (Spanish)
Thursday, December 17 at 11 am (English) and 12 pm (Spanish)

Family applications may be submitted on the City’s website at www.miamibeachfl.gov/prek.
This site provides an overview of the program and eligibility criteria. The deadline for
application submission is January 4, 2021. Staff from the Office of Organizational
Development Performance Initiatives (Education) will contact family applicants in the order of
selection by a computerized lottery process which will establish a numerical order of service
until all funds are exhausted. Results from the lottery will be posted on the City’s website
including name, confirmation number, and lottery number.
The administration has already held several informational sessions for interested PreK
providers. Providers must submit an application to be a PreK option for families.
