SUBJECT: Correction to L TC No. 426-2020 regarding a motion from the Police
Citizen Relations Committee at its November 17, 2020, meeting
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to correct a scrivener's error in L TC
No. 426-2020 dated November 30, 2020, regarding a motion adopted by the Police Citizen
Relations Committee. Below, please find the correct language of the motion pertaining to
Community Courts as adopted by the Committee at its November 17, 2020.
Motion #1 supporting the concept of Community Court
Recognizing that the importance of breaking the cycle of the revolving doors of justice, the
Miami Beach Police Citizens Relations Committee supports the idea of a Community Court
in Miami Beach to address at-large, homeless, petty crime, and municipal ordinance
offenders. The objective of a Community Court, as presented by the Chief, would be to
help offenders deal with the problems that lead to crime and provide the courts with better
information on the cases being heard.
Motion moved by Committee Member Rafael Velazquez and seconded by Chairman Alex
Fernandez and passed by acclamation.
