City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT, Tel: 305.673.7575 PRESS RELEASE Tonya Daniels, E-mail: tonyadaniels@miamibeachfl.gov Melissa Berthier, E-mail: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 17, 2020 City of Miami Beach Closes Non-Essential Businesses Citywide –In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19– Miami Beach, FL – As Florida continues to experience rising numbers of coronavirus cases, the City of Miami Beach — together with Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami — is mandating a closure of non-essential businesses on March 18, 2020 until further notice. - This includes all restaurants, hotel dining rooms, bars, nightclubs, movie theaters, concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, bowling alleys, arcades, gymnasiums and fitness studios. Restaurant and hotel kitchens may continue to operate until midnight each day for takeout and food delivery service only. - Businesses excluded from this mandate include pharmacies, grocery stores, convenience stores, private offices, banks, hotels, hospitals, medical service providers, medical supply stores, hardware stores, gasoline service stations and automotive supply/repair centers. - Any congregation of more than 10 people at any portion of the beach citywide is against the law and will be dispersed. This measure is consistent with the direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Click here to read the revised Declaration of Emergency Measures effective March 18, 2020. Any violation of the aforementioned emergency measures would subject the individual or business entity to criminal penalties. The city also urges residents and visitors to heed the recommendations of the CDC to limit their gatherings to no more than 10 people.
