A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE SOUTH DADE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE'S ESTABLISHMENT OF A MILITARY HOUSING RENTAL PROGRAM WITHIN SOUTH DADE TO ASSIST ACTIVE MILITARY MEMBERS, RESERVISTS, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES TO OBTAIN AFFORDABLE HOUSING; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. N o . 2 1-3 6 P a g e 1 of 3 RESOL UTION N0. 21-36 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE SOUTH DADE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE'S ESTABLISHMENT OF A MILITARY HOUSING RENTAL PROGRAM WITHIN SOUTH DADE TO ASSIST ACTIVE MILITARY MEMBERS, RESERVISTS, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES TO OBTAIN AFFORDABLE HOUSING; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, military personnel relocating to South Dade have expressed a desire to live in the City of Doral however, the combination of most landlords requiring three-month rental deposit, the added cost of utility deposits, and other moving expenses exceed military families' monthly budget and the military's limited moving allowance; and WHEREAS, the lack of available affordable housing and the high costs of moving ( known as the " affordability crisis") has forced military personnel considering relocation to Miami-Dade County to obtain housing outside the City of Doral to areas into Broward County; and WHEREAS, the City of Doral is the ideal place for military members and their families to live, work and play; and WHEREAS, the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and its Military Affairs Committee("MAC") are working with the Family Readiness Directors at our local military institutions to establish a Military Rental Property Program ("MRPP" in South Dade; and WHEREAS, renting to military personnel is a patriotic and gratifying activity and the rental committees can take action to be " military -friendly" and " military-ready landlords by offering a variety of affordable housing solutions such as discounted monthly rent rates; lower initial deposits; flexible lease terms; reduced application and administration fees; and expedited processing of applications and background checks; R e s . N o. 2 1 -3 6 P a g e 2 of 3 and WHEREAS, the City of Doral finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and w elfare of the residents; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section1, Re ci tal s, Th e fore going recital s are confirm ed, adopte d an d incorporated herein and m ade a part hereof by this reference. Section2, Authorization. Th e Ci ty of Dora l M ayor and Ci ty Counci l herb y express their support fo r the South D ade Cham ber of Com m erce to establish programs to assist active m ilitary serv ice m em bers, reserv ists, veterans, and their fam ilies to obtain affordable housing w ithin the City of D oral. Section3, Implem enta tion. Th e Mayor and Ci ty Counci l herb y dire ct s the City Clerk to transm it a copy of this Resolution to the M iam i-Dade County League of Cities, all m unicipalities in M iam i-Dade County , and to the South Dade Cham ber of C om m erce. Section4, Effectiye Date. Th is Resol ution sh al l becom e effective im m ediately upon its adoption. R e s .
