Aguila DATE: February 18, 2021 r-: DocuSigned by: e" SUBJECT: Motion from the Police Citizen Relations Committee February 16, 2021 Teams Phone Conference Meeting The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to inform the Mayor and the Commission a motion made by the Police Citizen Relations Committee at their February 16, 2021 Teams Teleconference Meeting. Background: The Miami Beach Police Department ("MBPD") continually aspires to address crime and community concerns through innovation and positive partnerships with the community. To support the public safety goals of MBPD, it is the purpose of the Police/Citizens Relations Committee ("Committee") to, in part, endorse programs that will enhance the well-being of residents and visitors. The following motion was made at the February 16, 2021 meeting of the Police Citizen Relations Committee: Motion #1 Hiring of more poice officers A motion of the Police/Citizens Relations Committee: 1. A motion of the Police Citizens Relations Committee expressing strong support for the hiring of additional police officers to, at minimum, meet the current immediate need to fully staff the AOCO Safe Plan with officers not assigned to other city-wide duties, and said new hires will additionally serve the long term needs of the Miami Beach Police Department by filling vacancies that will occur due to attrition in the upcoming fiscal years.
