Hudak, City Mana� DATE:May 21, 2021 lJf •· SUBJECT:Black Affairs Advisory Committee Motions The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update regarding two motions made during the May 18, 2021 Black Affairs Advisory Committee ("BMC") meeting: Motion 1: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee motions that the City of Miami Beach make a concerted effort to promote the Juneteenth programming to Black and Caribbean media outlets and highlighting Juneteenth events as City of Miami Beach initiatives. Motion made by Valerie Crawford. Motion seconded by Bibi Andrade. Motion 2: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee motions to endorse the Miami Beach Youth Commission #MBHistory series and support the inclusion of the series in the City of Miami Beach school curriculum. Motion made by Diane Connolly Graham. Motion seconded by Valerie Crawford. Motion 3: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee motions that the City of Miami Beach support aligning with organizations in Miami Dade County to register and inc rease the number of Small Business Enterprises (SBEs) and/or Disadvantage Business Enterprises (DBEs) a priority. Motion made by Valerie Crawford. Motion seconded by: Glendon Hall. Motion 4: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee motions that the City of Miami Beach develop a SBE and/or DBE contractorlmentorlprotege program, under the same structure as defined in the successful Public Health Trust Jackson Health Systems RFP, to provide protege management level experience for future City of Miami Beach RFPs. Motion made by Troy Wright. Motion seconded by Valerie Crawford. 1 Motion 5 : The Black Affairs Advisory Committee motions that the City of Miami Beach support the Miami Beach Inspector General proactively monitoring and tracking SBE and DBE utilization and participation in City of Miami Beach procurements. Motion made by Valerie Crawford. Motion seconded by Bibi Andrade. All motions were passed unanimously.
