PROJECT ON SR112/41 STREET BETWEEN ALTON ROAD AND MERIDIAN
AVENUE, INCLUDING A NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SIGNAL ON 41 STREET
AND JEFFERSON AVENUE
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to announce the commencement of a Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) pedestrian safety project on 41 Street between Alton Road
and Meridian Avenue. The scope of the FDOT safety project includes:
• Installing a new traffic signal and crosswalk at 41 Street and Jefferson Avenue
• Improving street lighting
• Improving existing drainage structures
• Installing ADA compliant sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps
• Installing new signage and pavement markings
The new traffic signal at Jefferson Avenue is the result of many years of collaboration between
the City and FDOT to address pedestrian safety at this intersection, particularly for Nautilus Middle
School students crossing 41 Street. FDOT will also be extending the school zone to the west of
Jefferson Avenue.
Construction is expected to commence on the week of June 7, 2021 and be completed during
summer break. During construction, the FDOT contractor will be closing travel lanes during non -
peak hours. Lane closures may occur during the following periods:
• 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. — weekdays and weekends
• 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. — Sunday through Thursday nights
• 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. — Friday and Saturday nights
The Administration recognizes that the 41 Street corridor is currently experiencing significant
traffic congestion due to the construction of the Indian Creek Drive Flood Mitigation project;
however, the implementation of the proposed FDOT improvements is critical to ensure the safety
of pedestrians, particularly Nautilus Middle School students, crossing 41 Street. For this reason,
the project must be constructed during the summer break to reduce impacts to school traffic and
the 41 Street corridor. The City will work closely with FDOT to ensure that lane closures are
scheduled during off-peak hours and at night whenever possible to minimize traffic impacts.

OVERVIEW
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a pedestrian and bicycle safety project, as part of a
district-wide pushbutton contract, the week of June 7, 2021 along SR 112/Arthur Godfrey Road/West 41 Street from
SR 907/Alton Road to Meridian Avenue, Miami-Dade County.
Please note that this schedule could change due to bad weather or other unexpected conditions.

zone. Wearing a safety belt is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle
crashes. The Department takes steps to reduce construction effects, however you might experience the following
around the work site:
• Travel lane closures and detours
• Increased dust and noise
• Workers and equipment moving around the area
• Allow extra time to reach your destination
• Obey all posted signs and speed limits
