SUBJECT : SIMON BOLIVAR Y LAS AMERICAS DAY -COLLINS PARK
The purpose of this L TC is to notify the Mayor and City Commission of the upcoming
Simon Bolf vary Las Americas Day event hosted by the City of Miami Beach Parks and
Recreation Department in conjunction with the Hispanic Affairs Committee . The event
will take place on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Collins Park (21 st
Street and Collins Avenue) next to the Simon Bolfvar Monument.
Simon Bolf var, also known as El Libertador (translated in English as 'The Liberator''),
played a central role in the South American independence movement against Spanish
rule. His efforts set forth the creation of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru .
Saturday's festivities will be followed by an invocation and wreath-laying ceremony from
the Office of the Mayor and Commission. This year's ceremony will honor the country of
Colombia. Complimentary cafecito will be served.
