SUBJECT: FY 21/22 Special Event Sponsorship Program Applications
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and Commission with
information regarding the launch of the FY 21/22 Special Event Sponsorship Program (the
"Program"). The Program will launch on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 and will provide up to
$1.5m in financial assistance and support to local festivals, special events, and community events
or programming on Miami Beach that attract quality experiences and promote community
engagement.
The Program application process will review and consider special events, community projects or
programs designed to accomplish one or more of the following goals and objectives:
• provides unique and engaging experiences that increase resident quality of life;
• verified to increase tourism by hotel rooms block contract(s) and targeted tourist
attendance;
• promotes Miami Beach as a national and international tourist destination;
• event(s) are accessible to the general public; and
• strengthens the city by enhancing the cultural events.
The Program will evaluate the effectiveness and impact of particular special events, community
projects or programs on the community -at -Targe. Special attention will be paid to events that
promote the reputation of Miami Beach as a place to visit, live, and/or work, celebrates Miami
Beach heritage and environment, and enriches the character and quality of life of the city.
The Program applications for funding will be awarded for a fiscal year. Program applications for
events held between January 1 - September 30, 2022, will be available from September 1 —
October 30, 2021, and staff will make recommendations to the City Commission on or before
December 2021. A link to the Program application will be available on Wednesday, September 1,

2021 on the www.MiamiBeachFL.gov website. Events held October 1, 2022 — September 30,
2023, the applications will be open January 1 — February 28, 2022, and staff will make
recommendations to the City Commission on or before April 2022.
A public zoom Program information session has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 25, 2021
at 2 PM to share the Program details and to answer questions and answers. Interested attendees

The Program information session presentation will be posted on the www.MiamiBeachFL.govon
the Tourism & Culture Sponsorship Program page and the questions and answers will be posted
in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. An additional
Program information session will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Each Program applicant must meet all application requirements, including deadlines, or the
Program application will be disqualified. A mandatory dollar for dollar ($1 to $1) match is
applicable to all Program applicants. Program applicants must demonstrate this match through
cash, other matching sponsorships, and/or in-kind contributions. Program applicants applying
through a "fiscal agent" are not eligible. Additionally, organizations which received funding from
the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (VCA) or the Cultural Affairs Council (CAC) or
the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, during the same fiscal year are not eligible to
apply.
