Hudak, City Mana ~ December 13, 2021 SUBJECT: Black Affairs Advisory Committee Motions -November 16, 2021 The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update regarding two motions made during the November 16, 2021 Black Affairs Advisory Committee ("BAAC") meeting: Motion #1: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee recommends the Miami Beach Black Affairs Advisory Committee spearhead a workshop to discuss and identify, with the Greater Miami Black and minority business community stakeholders, to ensure Black voices are included in the strategic marketing, communications and messaging to and about the Black community. Motion was made by Valerie Crawford and seconded by Troy Wright. Motion passed unanimously. Motion #2: The Black Affairs Advisory Committee recommends the Mayor and City Commission amend the City's Human Rights Ordinance, located in Chapter 62, Article II of the City Code, to prohibit discrimination based on an individual's hair texture or hairstyle, if that hair texture or that hairstyle is commonly associated with a particular race or national origin.
