City-of-Miami-Beach-Extends-COVID-19-State-of-Emergency-5.5.21 We are committed to providing excellent public service and safety to all who live, work and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community. City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, Tel: 305.673.7575 PRESS RELEASE Tonya Daniels, E-mail: tonyadaniels@miamibeachfl.gov Melissa Berthier, E-mail: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 5, 2021 City of Miami Beach Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency Declaration —Through Wednesday, May 12, 2021— Miami Beach, FL – Based on Executive Order (EO) 21-102 issued by the Florida Governor, the City of Miami Beach’s most recent Emergency Order, which was set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on May 5, 2021, is now suspended. The city does not intend to renew or extend the Emergency Order at this time. “Even though we are suspending our Emergency Order, it’s in everyone’s best interest to continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing,” said Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “We have made great strides in our fight against COVID-19, but we have not yet reached the finish line.” The city will continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic through its public safety departments. The Governor’s executive order does NOT preclude the city from operating or coordinating vaccination and testing sites or providing other discretionary benefits to address the impacts of COVID-19. Accordingly, Miami Beach has extended its State of Emergency through May 12, 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will ensure the city’s continued eligibility for the reimbursement of COVID-related expenditures. The city’s Declaration of a State of Emergency is separate from the issuance of any emergency measures. While the governor’s action suspends and/or invalidates certain “restrictions and mandates on individuals and businesses,” the action does not restrict any Florida city from continuing to declare a State of Emergency or taking other action in order to obtain reimbursement for COVID-related expenses.
