The artwork will become a permanent fixture of the City of Miami Beach’s Art in Public Places collection and be installed in a dedicated, publicly-accessible area of the Miami Beach Convention Center or City Center Campus, if the work demands an outdoor location. After much deliberation and consideration, the city’s Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP) has narrowed down the choices to three works of art and have turned the final decision over to the public to select a winner. Artists in the final selection include Farah Al Qasimi (Helena Anrather), Troy Mazaka (First Floor Gallery) and Zanele Muholi (Yancey Richardson Gallery). Click here to view the art pieces, artist bios and cast your vote. Voting will begin today, Tuesday, Nov. 30 and run until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The work of art with the most votes will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 2 and will be acquired by the city on that same day. The Art Basel Legacy Purchase Program is made possible from the Miami Beach Convention Center’s AiPP contingency fund. This fund is dedicated to the purchase of public art, with a limit of up to $50,000, that includes the purchase and future maintenance of the artwork. All acquisitions fall under the city’s AiPP ordinance and guidelines.
