Hudak, City Manag W- DA TE: April 27, 2022 SUBJECT : Emergency Small Business Reimbu rsement Grant Program Update #4 The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide an update regarding the status of the small business assistance grant programs funded through Community Development Block Grant -Coronavirus (CDBG-CV). The CDBG-CV funding was appropriated by the U.S . Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the City of Miami Beach through the Office of Housing and Community Services and allocated to the Economic Development Department as a subrecipient for this purpose. On May 13 , 2020, via Resolution No. 2020-31256, the City Commission allocated $200 ,000 in CDBG-CV funds for small business assistance grants. The Economic Development Department developed a Small Business Assistance program application and completed a virtual lottery process in an effort to assist small businesses with up to $10 ,000 for reimbursement of eligible business expenses. To date, $140,000 has been disbursed to fourteen (14) qualified businesses. Through an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Office of Housing and Community Services, the remaining $60,000 in unexpended funds was reallocated to the CDBG-CV Emergency Small Business Reimbursement Grant Program. Of the fourteen (14) qualified businesses, thirteen (13) businesses have completed the twelve (12)-month reporting requirement. The Administration would like to congratulate the below businesses that have successfully completed the program compliance period. The principal goal of the Program is to support and promote bus iness longevi ty by retaining or creating jobs . Funding for small business assistance is necessary to provide support for existing businesses and to encourage the growth of businesses during the ongoing recovery phase. Pursuant to the amendment to the MOU providing for an additional $60 ,000 in grant funding, at least thirty-three (33) businesses will now receive assistance totaling $660,000 under this program, which has been active since January 6, 2021. As of April 13, 2022, the Economic Development Department has approved twenty-seven (27) businesses for funding for a total of $540,000. The Administration would like to congratulate the eleven ( 11) businesses listed below that have successfully completed the twelve ( 12)-month compliance reporting period . Businesses awarded the grant more recently are still in the process of completing the twelve (12)-month reporting requirement. The Administration will provide another update once the remaining grantees have completed the compliance period .
