SUBJECT : Simon Bolivar y Las Americas Day at Collins Park
The purpose of this L TC is to notify the Mayor and City Commission of the upcoming
Simon Bolivar y Las Americas Day event hosted by the Parks and Recreation
Department in conjunction with the Hispanic Affairs Committee . The event will take place
on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Collins Park (21 st Street and Collins
Avenue) next to the Simon Bolivar Monument.
Simon Bolivar, also known as El Libertador (translated in English as "The Liberator"),
played a central role in the South American independence movement against Spanish
rule . His efforts set forth the creation of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru.
Sunday's festivities will be followed by an invocation and wreath-laying ceremony from
the Office of the Mayor and Commission. This year's ceremony will honor the country of
Peru. Complimentary Cafecito will be served .
