Historic Preservation Board Recommendation -New Law Limiting City's Review
of Demolition Permits for Single Family Homes in Miami Beach (HB 423).
At their July 12, 2022 meeting, the Historic Preservation Board discussed the new State law limiting the
City's review of demolition permits for Single Family Homes in Miami Beach (HB 423). At the conclusion
of the discussion, the Board passed a motion requesting the Mayor and City Commission take action
to urge the State Legislature to amend the law to exempt historically designated single -family homes
regardless of owner consent and the date of historic designation. In addition, the Board recommended
that the Mayor and City Commission direct the Administration to perform a survey of all single-family
homes within the City to create a database for future historic designation.
