SUBJECT: Deauville Beach Resort, 6701 Collins Avenue-Update
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide an update regarding property
containing the former Deauville Beach Resort ("Deauville") regarding the site work and
the demolition permit. This L TC is to update previous dated L TC's dated: January 7th
(L TC 003-2022), January 11 th (006-2022), January 20th (L TC 020-2022), February 16 th
(L TC 063-2022), March 10th (L TC 093-2022) and April 28th (L TC 167-2022) additional
information regarding the property and city efforts may be found on those L TC's. The
asbestos remediation total demolition permit BC2116167 was issued March 9 th , 2022.
SUMMARY OF RECENT EVENTS
Asbestos remediation (removal) is under the jurisdiction of the Division of Environmental
Resources Management (DERM), which has been inspecting the remediation to ensure
a safe and compliant process is maintained throughout the phase. The demolition
contractor has provided updates during the remediation process to keep the Building
Department informed on the progress made. There have also been monthly meetings
with DERM, the contractor's representative, the structural engineer, and the City's
Building Official to ensure that the process continued smoothly and safely.
The asbestos removal is now complete, and the contractor is providing notification to the
neighbors of the pending total demolition. Today equipment will be on site to begin the
conventional demolition of the lower portion of the building including the pool and pool
deck. The Phase I of the demolition will be the conventional demo of pool, pool deck,
ballrooms, and lobby.
In connection with the demolition Phase II, there is a permit revision RV2218112 to
revise the method of demolition for implosion . We will continue to monitor the demolition
process and provide updates.
