The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update the Mayor and Commission on ITA*onu_'6_'P_,-_w_bJj_vP__1
activations for March 2023. The Miami Beach Tennis Open and Soccer event, approved by Commission
in September, notified the City on Friday, December 23, 2022, that they will not be proceeding with the
event. Staff immediately sprang into action and contacted AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals),
who had already been in negotiations with the City regarding activating the beachfront on the third
weekend in March, to shift to the first weekend. AVP, since 1983, has organized the AVP Pro Beach
Volleyball Tour, which usually takes place in Ft. Lauderdale, and will be coming to Miami Beach for the
first time in 2023.
Staff is also currently in discussions for a nighttime concert in Lummus Park/Ocean Drive for the first
weekend in March with United First Responders MusicFest, a multi -agency first responder live music
festival showcasing musicians, who are presently active or retired uniformed personnel from different
police and fire departments across the United States and Puerto Rico.
These events will be funded in part by the approved Miami Beach Live! programming budget.
