Please join Miami Beach officials in celebrating this iconic amenity on Tuesday, April 12 at 8:30 a.m. “We have a very active handball community in Miami Beach that has been eagerly anticipating the completion of this project,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said. “We wish our handball players many more years of aces, corner throws and diving shots on these beautiful courts.” Handball has been a popular sport in Miami Beach since the 1970s, so much so that project renovations were staggered to minimize disruptions in play on the indoor and outdoor courts during the work. The exuberant Flamingo Park handball community was recently featured in an article that appeared in The New York Times. In addition to resurfacing and rebuilding the courts, the project included new lighting, water fountains and drainage improvements. Handball courts are available on a first-come, first- served basis for approximately one hour per game. Flamingo Park spans more than 36 acres in South Beach. As funding becomes available, the city plans to continue to upgrade park amenities. ### WHAT: Grand Reopening of Flamingo Park Handball Courts WHEN: Tuesday, April 12 at 8:30 a.m. WHERE: Flamingo Park, 11 Street and Jefferson Avenue To request this material in alternate format, sign language interpreter (five-day notice required), information on access for persons with disabilities, and/or any accommodation to review any document or participate in any city-sponsored proceedings, call 305.604.2489 and select 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then option 6; TTY users may call via 711 (Florida Relay Service).
