City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, Tel: 305.673.7575 PRESS RELEASE Melissa Berthier, Email: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov Matt Kenny, Email: mattkenny@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jan. 24, 2022 Miami Beach Set to Honor José Martí — The ceremony will take place on Jan. 27 — Miami Beach, FL – Join the City of Miami Beach in celebrating the birth of Cuban national hero José Martí on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. The poet’s writings on freedom and independence continue to inspire Cuban Americans and Latin Americans nearly 170 years since Martí’s birth. “There will never be another José Martí – an incredible poet who went so far as to pay the ultimate price while fighting for his country’s freedom,” said Mayor Dan Gelber. “He continues to inspire our community as we strive to heed his call to grow neither nettles or thorns, but rather a white rose.” The event gives older generations an opportunity to reflect on Martí’s life and younger generations an opportunity to discover his historical contribution. “We encourage the community to come celebrate Jose Marti’s birthday with us,” shared Gabriel J. Paez, who chairs the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee. Cafecito and pastelitos will be served at 3 p.m. courtesy of the Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department.
