DISABILITY ACCESS COMMITTEE MOTION
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with the motion made during the
February 21, 2023, Disability Access Committee (DAC):
For several years, the Disability Access Committee (DAC) has been in conversations with
representatives of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and has explained that it is challenging for those
with disabilities to attend a doctor's appointment when, for example a blind person that relies on
a ride-sharing application that requires the input of a specific street address (including building
number) to arrive at the desired destination of the appointment. Some of the buildings on the
Mount Sinai campus have only names, and/or several buildings on the campus are listed under
the same street address number, or building numbers are not clearly displayed for ride-share
drivers to accurately arrive at desired destination.
Motion: DAC members request that the City of Miami Beach assist in ensuring that Mount Sinai
Medical Center makes its campus more accessible to all visitors including those with disabilities
by providing appropriate address numbers on buildings, and that building numbers are displayed
clearly for ease of location by-ride-share operators, and people who are blind and who rely on
ride-sharing applications to commute.
