Attachment: Sustainability Committee Motion tar EC/AK/JB RECEIVED M4AR 14 2023 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK DocuSign Envelope ID: B412266F-56B6-4758-A8A9-5DD2568991D6 City of Miami Beach Sustainability Committee Members Margarita Kruyff • Michael Defilippi • Johann Moore • Maria J Algarra • Janet Silvennan• Elizabeth Wheaton TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission Margarita Kru yff, Sustainability Committee Chair March 8, 2023 Sustainability Committee Motions Dear Honorable Mayor and City Commission, The Sustainability Committee met on February 23, 2023 and passed the motions below: • The Sustainability Committee recommends that the City of Miami Beach Mayor and Commission opt for a commercial exclusive structure with a price cap for waste hauler operations for multi- family residences of 9 or more units and commercial properties, in order to increase the sustainability and efficiency of waste hauler operations, including: • reduction of total trucks and truck hours driven on the roads thereby reducing traffic congestion, tailpipe emissions and noise from trucks, and ■more consistent bins and messaging for waste and recycling to improve proper separation of the waste stream. • The Sustainability Committee recommends that the City of Miami Beach Mayor and Commission prioritize the selection of a waste hauler vendor that facilitates the City's sustainability goals, including: ■strategy to improve recycling and divert waste sent to landfill, ■uniformity of waste and recycling messaging, and ■the electrification of truck fleet. • The Sustainability Committee recommends that the City of Miami Beach Mayor and Commission support Miami-Dade County's continued planning for the Baylink project and encourage further studies that include mitigating the impacts on the Biscayne Bay marine ecosystem, especially corals, and the feasibility of constructing the Baylink in between the MacArthur Causeway Eastbound and Westbound lanes.
