Dear Honorable Mayor and City Commission:
The Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee
(TPBPFC) held its hybrid meeting on Monday, May 8, 2023, and passed the
below motions:
Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Quarterly Report
The Transportation, Parking, and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee passed
a motion requesting the Transportation and Mobility Department to resume
issuing the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Quarterly Report, which was last
released in May 2017. This report is crucial for providing visibility into the City's
implementation of transportation alternatives, including improvements in
bicycle, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure, as well as maintaining automotive
facilities. The report will provide essential information to residents, elected
officials, and city employees, while also ensuring accountability.
Alternative Bicycle Path to the Beachwalk
The Transportation, Parking, and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee
discussed the proposed Commission referral to evaluate an alternative bicycle
path to the Beachwalk shared-use path that would be located on the sand and
east of the dunes. The Committee is opposed to this idea and urges caution in
exploring proposals that shift bicycles onto hard sand or the beach. The
Committee does not believe this is an appropriate transportation strategy for
the City.
The Committee also proposes to host a workshop on the Beachwalk and ways in
which the now completed 7-mile shared-use path can be improved. The
workshop would cover items such as public safety and user accessibility. During
the meeting, the Committee briefly addressed the following:
• Drainage improvements
• Emergency call buttons
• Public safety and enforcement
• Service vehicle size

• Shade along the path
• Signage, including rules, regulations, and etiquette
• Street end curb ramps
• Vegetation encroachment
• Vehicle Bollards
This meeting would be open to the public, and the Committee urges
participation by members of the City Commission.
As an advisory Committee, we urge the Mayor and City Commission to support
these motions.
