LTC 256-2023 Goodwood Festival of SpeedMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC# LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Honorable Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission FROM: Alina T. Hudak, City Manag DATE: June 2, 2023 SUBJECT: Goodwood Festival of Speed The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform the Mayor and City Commission that Goodwood has made the decision not to proceed with bringing Festival of Speed to Miami Beach. After consideration and analysis, the Duke of Richmond and the Board of the Goodwood Estate have concluded that the time and resources required to deliver Festival of Speed Miami Beach 2025 would be difficult. During this past year, the Goodwood team has engaged in numerous meetings with staff from various departments of the city, representatives from Miami-Dade County, and partner agencies including the GMCVB, collaborating to obtain the essential information and details required to move forward. We are disappointed by this decision and will continue our endeavors to identify a multi-year festival of similar magnitude and significance to Miami Beach in March 2025. Attached please find the correspondence received from Goodwood. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Marcia Monserrat at marciamonserrat@miamibeachfl.gov. 256-2023 GooDwooD To: Alina Hudak From: Tim Bulley Via Email 2 Jue 2023 Dear Alina, You are aware that His Grace The Duke of Richmond spoke to Mayor Gelber on Thursday last week to inform him that, after very careful consideration, Goodwood has decided not to proceed any further with bringing The Festival of Speed to Miami Beach. There are a combination of factors that have led us to this decision and with several projects coming online on the Estate in the coming months, the board felt that the time and resource required to deliver Festival of Speed Miami Beach in 2025 would be a stretch for the business. I am sure that you will appreciate that this is not a decision that has been taken lightly. Over the last 12 months our team has done a considerable amount of research including numerous trips to Miami to meet with city officials, suppliers and potential partners. This research has brought into sharp focus the scale of what is required to deliver The Festival of Speed on Miami Beach and whether it is even possible. As a result, we felt it only fair that we should make a call now rather than proceeding with signing contracts in a public setting, only to risk having to pull out when we are all much more committed. I want to personally thank you for the enthusiasm, energy, help and support for our project. I am of course very disappointed that our shared vision will not become a reality and I understand that you will be too. Miami Beach is a spectacular location for an event of this kind and we have no doubt that you and your teams would have been exceptional hosts. Thank you for the collaborative and constructive way you and your teams have engaged with us during this process. In our opinion it is the behavior of an exemplary, world class host city and I have no doubt that you will continue to attract many more world class events. Thank you also for hosting us during our visits to Miami Beach, it has been a truly wonderful place to get to know. I hope that I'll find many more reasons to return. Do let's keep in touch, Yours Sincerely, Tim Bulley International Director Monserrat, Marcia From: Sent: To: Subject: Dan Gelber <dan@dangelber.com> Thursday, June 1, 2023 7:11 PM Burger, Michele; Hudak, Alina; Monserrat, Marcia Fwd: Goodwood [ THIS MESSAGE COMES FROM AN EXTERNAL EMAIL· USE CAUTION WHEN REPLYING AND OPENING LINKS OR ATTACHMENTS) ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Charles Richmond <dr@goodwood.com> Date: Thu, Jun 1, 2023 at 6:58 PM Subject: Goodwood To: Dan@dangelber.com <Dan@dangelber.com> CC: Leon, Samantha <SamanthaLeon@miamibeachfl.gov>, Clare Tivey <Clare.Tivey@goodwood.com> Dear Mayor Gelber, Following our recent call, I wanted to write and formally let you know that we have decided, at the moment, not to pursue staging the Goodwood Festival of Speed at Miami Beach. It has been a very difficult decision to take and we have already discussed together many of the challenges that have led us to making that decision. I so much enjoyed our various conversations together and know that my team here have also thoroughly enjoyed working with yours, who have been tremendously helpful, enthusiastic, professional, and patient throughout the entire process. Of course, if anything should change in the future, we will let you know, as the idea of bringing Festival of Speed to Miami is certainly something that very much excites us. It would be marvellous to perhaps catch up when you are in London sometime and do hope the relationship between Goodwood and Miami Beach can continue to develop in some way in the future.
