LTC# 357-2023 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: FROM: DATE: Honorable Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission Alina T. Hudak, City Managp August 7, 2023 SUBJECT: Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project Update #8 We are pleased to announce that beach fill operations for the current U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USAGE) beach renourishment project in the City of Miami Beach have been completed! Beach renourishment is vital for the integrity of our beaches and the protection of upland properties by reducing the impact of storms and sea level rise over time. This $40,468,000.000 project was fully funded by the federal government with Miami-Dade County (County) as the local sponsor and addressed the erosional hotspots in the vicinity of 64 Street, 55 Street, 46 Street and 27 Street (See Attachment A). Please see below photos taken during the final inspection in the 27 Street (Segment 4). DocuSign Envelope ID: 5B2A48140-4F65-47F 2-9473-A2E95CC70D53 Now that beach fill operations have been completed, the contractors have begun restoration of all areas that were impacted by the construction activity, including the lawn area at the 36 Street Parking Lot and the spoil area at the 46 Street Parking Lot. Both of these locations were utilized as staging areas for the project, and per the contract with the USACE, the contractors are required to restore the areas to their original conditions. Restoration of the staging areas will include leveling and replacement of any damaged pavers on the Beachwalk, replanting of all trees that were removed, resodding the lawn areas, repairing any damages to the pavement in the parking lots, and any other damages resulting from the construction activity. A multi-departmental staff team, led by the Environmental Resources Management Division, has worked diligently with the County, USAGE, and the contractor to minimize disruption during this project that took place from 2022 - 2023. The County, USAGE, and City staff will continue to communicate updates to adjacent property owners, neighborhood and building associations, and concessionaires of any future beach renourishment projects to come. If you have any questions related to the project, please contact me or Amy Knowles, Chief Resilience Officer at amyknowles@miamibeachfl.gov. 4GGG ATHI~GIAKISTIJL Attachment A: Miami Beach Renourishment Construction Maps OocuSign Envelope ID: 5B2A8140-4F65-47F2-9A73-A2E95CC70D53 ad z let isl pggt bit¢mp9pl ] WP NOXIMTt TOE OF EACH FL T ] - I ' \ \ SEAW""°EXTEl<T ~M:<1! ..
