SUB JEC T: Miami Beach Police Sergeant Promotional Ceremony
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of the promotional ceremony for
Officer Ricardo Castillo on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10 a.m . in the Major James W.
Smith Community Room at the Miami Beach Police Department (1100 Washington
Avenue).
Although the promotion to Sergeant is significant, Castillo's journey is remarkable. Castillo
was critically injured while on duty on January 11, 2020, when he and other officers
responded to a call of a man with a butcher knife on Ocean Drive. While handcuffing the
subject, Officer Castillo sustained multiple stab wounds, leading to officers discharging
their firearm.
After numerous surgeries and intense physical therapy Officer Castillo has made
significant strides in his recovery.
Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Castillo on his well-deserved promotion.
