SUBJECT: Homeless Point in Time Census Results - August 2023
This Letter to the Commission is to transmit the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust's
(Homeless Trust) results for the Point in Time Census conducted on August 24-25, 2023,
as noted in L TC 369-2023, dated August 24, 2023.
Managed by the Homeless Trust, the Homeless Outreach Services Division, a division
within the Department of Housing and Community Services, Miami Beach Police
Department Homeless Resource Officers, and volunteers participated in the Point in Time
Census. According to the results released to staff by the Homeless Trust, the City's
unsheltered homeless population is 152. The Homeless Trust will release the sheltered
population count at a later date.
The City of Miami Beach has experienced a 35% reduction in homelessness since the
most recent Point in Time Census was conducted in January 2023, when the unsheltered
homeless population count was 235.
We are grateful for the collaborative efforts and steadfast dedication of various City
departments and partners. While challenges persist we are motivated to continue the
mission of compassionate support for those who need it the most through effective
engagement and enforcement.
