Free Flu Vaccines Available for All Miami Beach Youth Residents
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update you on the status of the City of Miami
Beach's efforts to provide a free flu vaccine to Miami Beach youth residents. The city has
sustained its partnership with Borinquen Medical Centers, Miami-Dade County Public
Schools, and The Children's Trust to provide free flu vaccines to youth from October 10-12,
2023 at the following locations during afterschool hours: Biscayne Beach Elementary School,
Miami Beach Fienberg Fisher K-8, and Miami Beach Senior High School.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), getting a flu vaccine will
not protect against COVID-19, however, flu vaccination has many other important benefits. Flu
vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and flu-related death
in children. Getting a flu vaccine this fall will be more important than ever, not only to reduce
risk from flu but also to help conserve potentially scarce health care resources.
To provide future protection from the flu, the City of Miami Beach has committed $15,000. The
flu vaccines will be administered at the locations listed below during afterschool hours for free
($0 copay):

All participating youth will be required to submit a completed parental consent form by the
established deadline to their Miami Beach public school nurse. Consent forms may be found
on the City's website at www.miamibeachfl.gov/flu. Miami Beach residents not attending public
school who are seeking the free flu shot may participate on October 12, 2023 as indicated on
the chart above.
