ULI Southeast Florida / Caribbean Vision Award
The purpose of this LTC is to advise you that the 15" Annual Urban Land Institute Southeast
Florida / Caribbean Chapter has awarded the 2023 Project of the Year Vision Award to the Miami
Beach Convention Center (MBCC) Renovation & Expansion project at their annual ceremony held
on Nov. 28.
The MBCC took first place and now joins a group of past winners which include Brickell City Center,
Wynwood Walls, The Miami Design District, Lotus Village, the Perez Art Museum (PAMM), the
CocoWalk Redevelopment and several other prestigious projects in the South Florida region.
The Convention Center project is a LEED certified facility. The design created over 12 acres of
new greenspaces consisting of two public parks and included the renovation of the 100-year-old
Carl Fisher Clubhouse. The design also incorporated other resiliency features such as raised
roads, elevated critical building systems, an enhanced site drainage system, and decorative flood
walls which protect the building from the threat of sea level rise.
The Project of the Year Award recognizes excellence in development and redevelopment projects
in the region that represent the highest standards of achievement and highlight innovation,
transformational change, unique solutions, and above all responsibility in land use and
development.
In addition to the MBCC, four other short-listed finalists in this year's competition were:
• Linked at Douglas, Phase 1, a flagship transit-oriented development in Miami Dade-
County,
• Mosaico, a 271-unit affordable housing community in Allapattah serving residents over the
age of 62,
• Oasis Wynwood, a mixed-use project in the heart of Wynwood designed as an adaptive
reuse project involving the conversion of a former warehouse into innovative office space,
and
• Plaza Coral Gables, a 2.1 million square foot mixed-use development which includes office
space, a luxury Loews hotel, street-level retail and dining, a public plaza, two residential
towers, and parking for 2,000 vehicles.
The Urban Land Institute Vision Awards recognize the projects and individuals throughout the
region that best exemplify the mission of ULI, promote best practices in development, and
demonstrate a proactive commitment to excellence, with a focus on leadership, responsibility,
impact, and innovation.
